A Rock Legend, Kurt Cobain

Kurt Cobain
2.20.1967 - 4.5.1994

This MTV Live and Loud footage was actually the first time I saw Nirvana's performance. We didn't have MTV channel in our house but once in a while I can peeked through the fuzzing receptions and glimpsed a bit of the programs. I was just a stupid kid bore out of bones fumbling the remote control. Suddenly the powerful distortions caught my ears and then there was this guy with blue eyes that sparkled intensely through the dimmed stage lights. I also remembered vividly the human anatomy models with wings took the presence on the stage. And that was when I fell in love with Nirvana.

Nirvana's legacy was built on its melodic songs. Kurt Cobain's sensitivity, empathy and frustrations speaks to a generation of kids like me who desires a genuine voice. No any bands since the Beatles has ever changed the rock n' roll history overnight like Nirvana did. And a talented artist like Kurt Cobain doesn't come along very often.

Love this video. You can feel Cobain's personality and emotions. When Kurt smashed the guitar halfway through the song, Dave Grohl seemed to be tipped off the balance by it (yes even Dave Grohl). Unfazed Kris Novoselic felt the weight falling on his shoulder & kept slapping hard on the bass to keep the time. Then Kurt picked the guitar back up and distorted the rest of the song away. Classic!

Happy birthday, Kurt Cobain! Peace, love & empathy.
