“It Might Get Loud” – Join the Music Family

It Might Get Loud
It Might Get Loud is one of the best documentaries in recent years. The film evolves around the stories behind three legendary guitarists, Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White. As guitarists are peculiar about the sound, the film presents a sleek visual effect and amazing work of cinematography. Every aspect from the texture of the film, the lighting, to the angle of the camera is nicely done.

There’s a sense of humor around these three characters. The film is about the three guitarists talking about music, guitars and looking back at where they come from. It’s exactly what fascinates me the most about music, arts, or any intriguing characters.
When talking about the early influence, Jimmy page played the record of Link Wray’s Rumble. His face just lit up like a child. He than play air guitar along the song and tried to explain the strumming. You can see the joy and passion in his eyes. He couldn’t wipe the grin off his face. So do I! I was like “Yeah, that’s me! That’s my exact expression when I first heard Rumble!” And I still couldn't wipe off that grin whenever listening to Link Wray.

You know that feeling when you hear a piece of good music. You almost jump up and you can't stop the grinning. Jimmy and I are the same kind!!! We both listen to the same 50s, 60s music and blues growing up. We are still that little kids and shaking our heads when listening to the radio. And you can hear Jimmy’s influence from Link Wray’s historic power chords and blues roots.

As far as Jack White, ha, he’s one very interesting fellow. His dark browns eyes seem to stare intensely all the time. On the contrary to The Edge’s mountains of effect pedals and preamps, Jack White finds his tone in low fi and primitive way. All rock music go back to blues and I couldn’t agree more with Jack White’s creative approach in music. You don’t need a $2000 Les Paul to be able to play guitar. You can play music with your voice and your foot tapping on the floor. It’s music coming from heart and soul that truly touches you.

Close to the ending of the film, Jimmy starts to talk about what music means to him and being creative. I definitely can identify with that. Music is a way of expressing the feelings. It’s how we communicate with the world. It’s our voice through melodies through instruments. It's our soul.

Being creative, being daring, and being honest, we create our musical world. We are the family. Will you come join the family?
