Apocalypse Theme Songs

1. It's The End of The World as We Know It by REM

This song is from REM's 1987 album Document. Guitarist Peter Buck indicated that one of the primary inspirations of the song was Bob Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues.

Its the end of the world as we know it
And I feel fine
(It's time I had some time alone)

2. The Future by Leonard Cohen

This song is from Cohen's 1992 studio album The Future. The strings are arranged and conducted by David Campbell. Even though the song hinted the apocalypse, Cohen's poetically crafted lyrics and beautiful sultry rhythm make one feel like waltzing along 'til the end of the time.

Things are going to slide, slide in all directions
Won't be nothing
Nothing you can measure anymore
The blizzard, the blizzard of the world
has crossed the threshold
and it has overturned
the order of the soul
When they said repent repent
I wonder what they meant
You don't know me from the wind
you never will, you never did
I'm the little Jew who wrote the Bible
I've seen the nations rise and fall
I've heard their stories, heard them all
but love's the only engine of survival
Your servant here, he has been told
to say it clear, to say it cold:
It's over, it ain't going any further
And now the wheels of heaven stop
you feel the devil's riding crop
Get ready for the future:
it is murder

3. Goodbye Blue Sky by Pink Floyd

Goodbye Blue Sky is from Pink Floyd's 1979 album The Wall. The song tells the story of the Blitz, the  bombing of Britain by German Nazi in 1940.

Did you see the frightened ones?
Did you hear the falling bombs?
Did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter
when the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue sky?

Did you see the frightened ones?
Did you hear the falling bombs?
The flames are all gone, but the pain lingers on.

Goodbye, blue sky.
Goodbye.

4. Here Comes the Flood by Peter Gabriel

Lord, here comes the flood
We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again the seas are silent in any still alive
It'll be those who gave their island to survive
Drink up, dreamers, you're running dry
