  • Television icon Andy Griffith died at his home in Dare County, NC on July 3rd. He was 86.
  • Brian Jones and Jim Morrison died on July 3rd.  Brian Jones was found dead at the bottom of his swimming pool in 1969 in Sussex and Jim Morrison was found dead in a bathtub in 1971 in Paris.  Read No One Here Gets Out Alive for more details.
  • Radiohead lend its song Everything In Its Right Place to Homeless Polar Bear in London.  (Rolling Stone)
  • Ringo Starr was born in Liverpool, England on July 7, 1940.
  • Syd Barrett died in Cambridge, England on July 7, 2006 at age 60.
  • New Mick Jagger biography Mick: The Wild Life and Mad Genius of Jagger revealed rock star's passionate affair with David Bowie.  (NY Daily News)
  • Mitch Mitchell was born in Middlesex, England on July 9, 1947.
  • Slash was honored with a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame on July 10th.

  • Woman claimed she found Bob Dylan's Newport Folk Festival electric guitar in her New Jersey attic.

  • English poet John Clare was born on July 13, 1793.
  • Ten Grammy awards winning country singer Linda Ronstadt was born in Tucson, Arizona on July 15, 1946.
  • Punk rock singer and guitarist Johnny Thunders in Queens, New York on July 15, 1952. 
  • Ian Curtis of Joy Division was born on July 15, 1956.  He hung himself on May 18, 1980.  He was 23.  Recommend 2007 Ian Curtis biographical film, Control.  
  • Joe Satriani was born in Westbury, New York on July 15, 1956. 
  • Green Day set to release its first single Oh Love from their new album trilogy ¡UNO! ¡DOS! ¡TRÉ! on July 16.
  • Deep Purple's Jon Lord dies on July 16th at 71.  (MSNBC)
  • Bob Dylan's new album Tempest is set to release in September.  (NY Times)
  • Hunter S. Thompson was born in Louisville, Kentucky on July 18, 1937.
  • Brian May, an astrophysicist and best known as the guitarist and songwriter of Queen, was born in London on July 19, 1947. 
  • Carlos Santanna was born in Jalisco, Mexico on July 20, 1947.  
  • The Who announced new tour performing their 1973 album Quadrophenia(Spinner)
  • Realist painter Edward Hopper was born in Nyack, New York on July 22, 1882.
  • Roger Waters performed The Wall at the Berlin Wall on July 22, 1990.
  • Blues pianist Pinetop Perkins was born in Belzoni, Mississippi on July 7, 1913.  He started out as a guitarist but switched to playing piano after injuring his hand.  He was honored Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
  • Queen's drummer Roger Taylor was born in Norfolk, England on July 26, 1949.
  • Mick Jagger was born on July 26, 1943 in Kent, England. 
  • Richard Wright was born on July 28, 1943 in Middlesex, England. (deceased September 15, 2008)
